about

A brand new ode to the season from Craig & Gary, the chorus is a holiday earworm for sure! Includes some etheric sawing from Stephen Christoff! "On Halloween" was written by Craig (Evans) and Gary Walker. They have collaborated together on dozens of songs over the years, including close to half of the songs The Taters have recorded since 1999. This song is the newest they've written, and was completed for this project. Craig originally wrote the lyrics as a Halloween poem, trying for a sort of Ray-Bradbury-meets-Dr-Seuss type of rhythm to it. He sent the lyrics to Gary, who followed with a tune. Craig brought all of it to the Taters and together they came up with the arrangement and recording.

lyrics

On Halloween
(©2015 Craig Evans & Gary Walker, BMI. All rights Reserved)

He thought he saw a ghost one night , Or something very frightening
He called his mother, "No", she said, "It must have been the lightning"
But it wasn't like no other lightning He had ever seen
It scared him so because, I think, it came on Halloween

He always tried to ride around the tunnel, Never through it
But Thursday it was late, He was alone before he knew it
The tunnel was the quickest way back home through the ravine
It would have been, except, of course, The night of Halloween

(On Halloween) Give everything a second thought
(On Halloween) Be careful that you don't get caught
You might be safe but maybe not this coming Halloween

He always loved the carnival, The lights, the sounds, the smells
He loved the rides and all the food, The animals as well
He couldn't think of anything to spoil this magic scene
But steer clear of the circus if it comes on Halloween

(On Halloween) Make sure you watch behind your back
(On Halloween) Don't listen to the one-eyed Jack
Be careful to avoid the cracks that come on Halloween

The strangest things you've ever seen
Beware of what those shadows mean
Or you may never reach thirteen
